As the teeth sprout, fairies crawl from under the beds (2023’06)
It’s a dreamy/nightmarish forest. An ecosystem of teethy flowers and other vulnerable monsters that both inhabit this reality as well as co-create its landscape.
Within my installation I play with dualities in aim to disenchant fixed notions of weakness and failure. I am using the idea of monsters from under our childhood beds, in order to break of its negative connotations and explore entangled feelings of safety and fear, beauty within the uneasiness and pain intertwined in the feeling of love and kindheartedness. I hope to create a place where all the hard to reach emotions can grow as big or as little as they need.

Meeting of the minutiae: the smaller, the better. They fill the smallest of crevices. What a hole, what a splinter, what a crumb. The minutiae do not seek to build anything larger. It is easier to ignore something that is small. If they are small, they must focus. The minutiae do not wish to disturb anything. Once given their space, they will become very grand. We have grown accustomed to patriarchal patterns, to the figure of the great master who looks down from above, never attempting to be close. We watched and we listened. We recognized our masters. We acknowledged shared sensibilities. We stand on a long-desired level ground. Roles blend; artists invite artists. The hosts invite others to co-create. The hosts learn from their guests. Together, the minutiae gain significance.
